Longitudinal rumble strips (Palisades Center, West Nyack, NY)
Notice in the distance a posted 20 mph speed limit. These rumble strips not only make it significantly much more dangerous for people that don't want to slow down, they don't slow down many drivers at all. In fact, many drivers can be seen travelling on the hatched yellow area in the center, or further down the road in the white hatched area on the right shoulder (from this photo's perspective). The 20 mph limit is unreasonably slow in the first place. Another example of a poor initial design resulting in consequences later.
